Cast, Characters & Plot: Knives Out and Glass Onion

Knives Out sees successful crime novelist, Harlan Thrombey, celebrating his 85th birthday at his mansion along with all of his family. The next morning, Harlan is found dead after seemingly committing suicide. However, after renowned detective Benoit Blanc is hired to investigate, the tangled web of lies surrounding Harlan’s death and the secrets of his eccentric family start to unravel. 

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a sequel to Knives Out, but with a new case for detective Blanc. This case involves tech billionaire Miles Bron, who invites five of his friends to his private Greek island home “Glass Onion.” Blanc is invited too, but interestingly not by Miles. Once there, he tells them he’s planned a murder mystery game in which he is the victim. 

Before the game can get started, though, Blanc spoils it by figuring out who the “murderer” is. Miles, a little annoyed, decides to turn the night to him, revealing his company’s latest development. However, things get serious when one of them is actually murdered. From there, the plot thickens and Blanc has to navigate the twists and turns to weed out the suspect.

Will There Be a Knives Out 3?

Since the original movie, creator Rian Johnson was already keen on there being multiple movies for the Knives Out franchise. The first movie was released by Lionsgate, and a sequel was given the green light not long after. However, Lionsgate’s CEO, Jon Feltheimer, said that Netflix offered a large sum of money to own the rights to two sequels. 

That’s why the original movie is less widely available on Netflix than Glass Onion. It also means a Knives Out Three will be released at some point; we just don’t have an official date yet. When the second sequel drops, we’ll be sure to update this information.
