We are happy to announce that the VMware Cloud Director Availability Content Pack for VMware Aria Operations for Logs 2.1 is now available.
It supports the latest product versions and is aligned to the additional VMware Cloud Director Availability logs added in them.
Interoperability
This new version of the content pack supports:
- VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7 and later
- VMware Aria Operations for Logs 8.10 and later
Installation
The content pack can be downloaded from the VMware Marketplace or directly installed through the Marketplace menu in VMware Aria Operations for Logs UI > Content Packs.
Upgrade
If you already run an older version of the content pack, you can easily upgrade it to 2.1 by:
- Navigating to the VMware Operations for Logs UI > Content Packs > Updates. You will be notified there is an update available, and you can perform it with a single click.
- Directly importing the new version from the VLCP file downloaded from the VMware Marketplace. It will lead to updating the existing one.
Log Collection
There are two ways to collect log information from VMware Cloud Director Availability:
- By setting the Syslog configuration in Events and Notifications through the Management Portal [Configuration steps]
- By installing VMware Aria Operations for Logs agents on all the VMware Cloud Director Availability appliances [Agent installation steps]
With the previous versions, to use the dashboards, queries, and alerts that came with the content pack, it was required to take the Syslog approach.
Now, with 2.1 and VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7, both methods for log collection can be chosen with no difference.
Note: If you configure both at the same time, this will lead to duplicate records in VMware Aria Operations for Logs.
Agent Group Configuration
To apply the agent group configuration on the VMware Cloud Director Availability virtual appliance, please follow these steps:
- Navigate to the VMware Aria Operations for Logs UI.
- Go to Management > Agents.
- Select the All Agents drop-down at the top of the window.
- Click the Copy Template button for the appropriate VMware – VCDA agent group(s).
- Add the proper filters to specify which agent should get the configuration.
- Click Refresh at the top of the page.
- Click Save Agent Group at the bottom of the page.
Focus
As an audit log was unavailable in the filesystem of the VMware Cloud Director Availability appliances in the previous releases, the only way to capture auditing information was via Syslog. In VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7, there is a new log file that contains information about audit events such as logins, modifications to system settings or replications, and more. You can find out the full details about the audit events in the documentation.
This is how it looks in the log browser.
