Looking to give developers access to tools and benefits such as technical assistance from Google’s Gemini AI technology, Google has created the Google Developer Program. Project IDX workspaces also are offered as part of the program.
Announced June 3, the Google Developer Program also is intended to help developers explore Google-sponsored developer communities. Key program benefits include AI developer assistance, with developers able to access a simple chat interface on multiple Google developer-facing websites including Google for Developers, Firebase, and Google Cloud. Gemini-powered developer assistance allows developers to learn more about documentation pages, ask questions about Google tools, generate sample code, and troubleshoot issues. Developers also can get natural language explanations of code snippets across documentation, test the functionality of Google APIs without coding, find AI-powered answers to questions from the search bar, and learn more about Google for Developers resources and documentation.
Developers in the program also can access as many as five workspaces in the Project IDX cloud IDE, an AI-assisted, cloud-based workspace for full-stack, multi-platform application development. Further, by joining the Google Cloud Innovators program, developers also will receive no-cost interactive lab credits for the Google Cloud Skills Boost learning program, which features training and skills development and access to Google Cloud environments. Members of the Google Developer Program also can apply to join Google-sponsored groups such as the Cloud Innovators program.
Plans call for the Google Developer Program in coming months to offer developers new tools and resources to help on their development journey, along with new ways to connect with the Google developer community.
