Announcing VMware Cloud Director Extension for Tanzu Mission Control

Businesses across the globe are quickly adopting container technologies and are modernizing their legacy applications – for the obvious benefits, from driving developer experience to increasing IT efficiency to driving direct business value through improved customer experience.

In September, 2023,  VMware announced Tanzu Mission Control Self-managed (TMC – SM)– a centralized hub that is purpose built to manage multi-tenant, multi-cluster Kubernetes management with and advanced security controls for Cloud Service Provider partners who cater to industries like BFSI, healthcare and the government sector that are highly sensitive to data security and sovereignty regulations.

Today, we are glad to announce the launch of the VMware Cloud Director Extension for Tanzu Mission Control. Service providers via the plug in centrally manage and offer a holistic, scalable and secure K8s as a platform service to their tenants in the regulated industries and enable them in their application modernization journey.

This new VMware Cloud Director plug-in addresses and mainly focuses our Sovereign Cloud  Partners with an on-premises VMware Tanzu Mission Control™ integrated into VMware Cloud Director.

Sovereign Cloud Service providers offering multi-tenant Kubernetes (K8s) Infrastructure as a Service to run container workloads on VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension air gapped deployments can now centrally manage all their K8s clusters (running in the air gapped environment), and apply the defined IT policies seamlessly across those K8s clusters  using VMware Cloud Director Extension for VMware Tanzu Mission Control.

This brings our services providers the opportunity to address and capture the segment  that is hard to be addressed by hyperscalers. They can provide a fully managed soverign compliant K8s service or enable self-service to the K8s experienced customers.
